Dubs at the Lake
By: Sheri Palomaki
Audi Club Potomac-Chesapeake has some fantastic scenery to call home. From the beaches to the mountains, there is seemingly always an amazing view. Deep Creek Lake, in far Western Maryland, is one such place, and one weekend in May, it turns into a haven for enthusiasts. This year, the Dubs at the Lake event hosted over 500 cars over three days.
Jonathan Leyh, event organizer Dubs at the Lake and the sister event, Dubs at the Gap, has been doing car shows here since 2013. As a native of Western Maryland, he wanted to turn his passion for cars into a local event that would draw enthusiasts to this beautiful part of Maryland. It is evident by the overwhelming response to this year’s event that car people agree.
Friday began with an Open-Air Imports mountain meet that ended with a barbeque at Archie’s. On Saturday, the day began with Dubs and Donuts and then a cruise around the lake. After that, folks ended at Deep Creek Fun Zone, where there were restaurants, go karts and ice cream. Sunday was the car show with 500 registered attendees. By 2:00, and just barely beating the forecasted storm, awards were given.
This event had so much energy. From classics to new models, the conversations and relationships that were built over the three-day weekend are the lasting kind. Dubs at the Lake generated the type of camaraderie we seek at Audi Club North America and in the Potomac-Chesapeake Chapter for our members. We will definitely be back, and we are looking forward to Dubs at the Gap in the Fall.
