Audi R8 Production Extended

As Audi moves to prepare for a new range of products, the communicated plan was that the R8 would end production at the end of 2023. Now, there’s news that it has perhaps been extended just a bit. We’re seeing it reported in the press, and we’ve heard our own internal rumors. Here’s a quick rundown of what we know.

Motor1 is reporting an official quote from Audi AG’s TT and R8 spokesperson Liza Kellner with an official confirmation of the extension of the car’s production. In it she said, “It is true, the last Audi R8 will leave the production line at the end of the first quarter of 2024. This marks the end of the production of an iconic sports car at the Audi Böllinger Höfe site in Neckarsulm. The all-electric Audi e-tron GT will continue to be built at the Böllinger Höfe.”

The statement goes further and is worth checking out on Motor1.

In a conversation with another source not in Audi’s communication department, we’d heard a similar story. The R8 continues to sell well, and is profitable for the company. Keeping it in production a bit longer makes sense by these measures. Our source shared this with us in Q4 of 2023, which means this quote likely confirms the final outcome of such a discussion and, of course, officially states an end of production.

Rumors of an R8 replacement are swirling, so we’ll save those for another story, but for now we also know that final production of the RS 6 GT Avant will also happen at Böllinger Höfe as confirmed by the initial press release following that car’s reveal earlier this week.
