Our First Look: Audi RS 6 Avant GT

When Audi calls and invites you to a private test drive of the brand-new limited-production Audi RS 6 Avant GT, how on earth could you refuse?
Audi Club North America received that very phone call last month, and we responded with an enthusiastic “yes!” Audi Club’s Executive Director, Chris May, and our club’s talented media specialist, Denis Podmarkov, traveled to infamous Willow Springs Raceway in Rosamond, California to cover an exclusive PR event hosted by Audi AG and Audi of America.
Audi Club joined a host of media outlets, and were given exclusive access to the brand-new RS 6 Avant GT. Two European-market RS 6 Avant GT examples were imported to the US for this PR event and other official movements (Perhaps you saw our club’s recent announcements for the RS 6 Avant GT appearances at Wagonfest and South OC Cars and Coffee).
Audi AG also brought a few other surprises, including a couple European-market Audi RS 6 performance models. Most notably in tow, however, was a 1989 Audi 90 IMSA GTO race car. If you’ve paid attention to the press announcements earlier this year for the RS 6 GT, this makes complete sense. The PR photography features both the IMSA GTO and RS 6 Avant GT side by side. Of course, the new Audi RS 6 Avant GT harkens to the IMSA GTO’s Audi Sport history by virtue of its two-tiered spoiler, new heritage badging and livery over Arkona White paint. Additional references to the Audi Sport heritage colors are found in the interior’s stitching.
We’re willing to take a bet that if you’re reading this article right now, there’s a good chance you’re already aware of the RS 6 Avant GT. Afterall, the full specs were released earlier this year. So, for you, our audience, we’re here to share exciting photos and video footage we captured during this special event (and yes, some differentiating specs about the car. Most importantly, we’re excited to highlight our experience driving this incredible culmination of Audi engineering.
Audi Club North America prides itself on being the premier Audi enthusiast organization, and the only club in North America sanctioned by Audi of America and Audi AG. We provide our members and the broader automotive enthusiast community, news and updates of all things four-rings through our online news blog, social media channels, and our quarterly print periodical, quattro Magazine.
So you’re going to want to stay tuned to our various media channels for additional in-depth coverage of this exclusive experience and the new RS 6 Avant GT.
